Bandits to visit SSP in 2012!!!!
For the first time in series history, the Steel Block Bandits Late Model Series will descend upon the four-tenth mile dirt oval known as Susquehanna Speedway Park (SSP). The Bandits will appear in two events in 2012 at this historic venue, which marks its 57th year of operation.
The SBB series will make its inaugural visit to Susquehanna on May 12 and will follow it with an appearance on
Sept. 1. “We’re very excited to be racing at Susquehanna,” said Butch Mayo, co-promoter of the SBB.
“The series has wanted to race at this facility since the series began in 2009. It’s gratifying to know that
a prestigious facility like Susquehanna understands the philosophy behind our series and has shown the
confidence in us by securing two race dates this season,” he added.
Both Bandits races at SSP are tentatively set as $1,500-to-win events. Along with the May 12 show, the
Bandits will highlight the card for the track’s 12th-annual York County Nationals on Sept. 1. “We’re very pleased
that Todd and Rhonda Fisher have included us to be a part of this historic event,” said Greg Keister,
co-promoter of the SBB Series. “This is reassuring to us that we are on the correct path in making this series grow.
We’re very happy to add a historic venue like SSP as a new track to our schedule,” he said.
Under the direction of the Fishers, SSP hosts weekly dirt track action for a multitude of divisions. In addition
to late models, the track showcases 358 and 410 winged sprint cars. The facility is located in
Newberrytown, Pa., and can be accessed on the internet at www.sspracing.net.
“It has been our pleasure to announce that Susquehanna joins Hagerstown as a part of our family
of tracks this season,” Mayo said. “We will be announcing additional venues and dates,
along with more information in the very near future,” he said.
