Hagerstown Speedway sets date for the Bandits
Christmas may be fading in the rearview mirror, but Hagerstown Speedway and the Steel Block Bandits Late Model Series have one more present for the race fans. The SBB series is set to return to Hagerstown Speedway on April 28, 2012.
“We’re very excited to make this announcement so soon,” said SBB co-promoter, Greg Keister. “The Bandits can’t wait to get back to this historic venue,” he added. The series made its first visit to Hagerstown in 2011 for the first-annual Greg Kerr Memorial that produced 52 entries. “We can’t thank the Plessinger family enough for inviting the series back in 2012,” said SBB co-promoter, Butch Mayo. “We’ve established many strong relationships in the past three seasons with tracks, drivers, sponsors and fans, and this has allowed us to continue to grow the series,” he added.
Winchester, Va’s, J.T. Spence, claimed the checkers and the $4,100 payday at the Bandits race at Hagerstown last April. Rick Hulson, of Glen Burnie, Md., set the track record for steel block late models in qualifying with a lap of 19.090 seconds.
The number of laps and total purse for this event is yet to be determined; however, Keister and Mayo are busy finalizing these plans with the track. Also, the new promoters are hard at work adding other venues to the 2012 SBB schedule. “We’ve been receiving a lot of interest from other tracks and many race teams regarding the upcoming season,” Mayo said. “We will be announcing many things, including tracks, race dates and the 2012 SBB driver roster in the coming days and weeks,” he added.
“A lot of fresh and enthusiastic ideas are being brought to the table this year by our new promoters and staff members,” said SBB series announcer, Mike Donald. “With the continued support of our established relationships, along with the newly generated interests from other tracks, drivers, sponsors and fans, I feel this will be an exciting and memorable season for the Bandits,” Donald added.
Details about driver membership and other host tracks for the 2012 SBB season will be announced soon. Please continue to monitor steelblockbandits.com for details.
